Last week when we to the Indian stores I came across these small potatoes. I couldn't help myself...I had to buy some! So this week I decided to make dum aloo. There are many version of dum aloo and they all have unique flavors. I perused the internet and found different recipes which I decided to combine to make up my own recipe.
Dum Aloo
Boil the potatoes--I boiled them in the microwave. After boiled, take off the skin and fry them in oil--until they are slightly golden. After doing it this I felt I didn’t need to fry it and could have kept it healthier by just using the boiled potatoes.
In oil:
Cumin seeds + red chillies + curry leaves + cashew nuts + onions + tomatoes + green chillies + garlic + ginger
Fry the above and then grind them
In oil add cumin seeds + clove + above mixture + thick curd + kasuri methi(small amount) + the potatoes + salt
Done!
It takes a while...at least it took me a while. Also if the potatoes are fried in oil--the recipe isn’t exactly very healthy. This may be a recipe to take once in a while. Also the recipe need not be made with the small whole potatoes...normal potatoes can be cut and same recipe can be made.
